about

I wrote this with my drum machine set at a beat that would work for runners. It's in DADGAD tuning. At Winston's studio, there was an old upright piano. I banged out some chords for the last verse. Winston pounded away on a drum kit. We had a lot of fun recording this runner's homage to 'garage rock'.

lyrics

I ran on down in Houston
Hit Toronto on the way
Beat my best in Richmond
Because it’s flat they say

I’m a runner
A long distance runner
Nothing gets in my way
As long as there’s a mile between us
I’m gonna run night and day

Ran down in Seattle
In the drizzle and the rain
It didn’t bother me much
‘Cause when you’re warm it’s all the same

I never been to Boston
Or seen the Tour Eiffel
But I swear I’m gonna get there
'Cause my time is gonna tell

I’m running in Vancouver
Between the mountains and the sea
With fifteen thousand other people
All trying to catch me

about

John Pippus Vancouver

"Reminiscent and harkening in spirit, in some ways, to Neil Young’s classic “Harvest,” Pippus and friends have made something much richer in tone and certainly more fitting for 2022.”
